Kairyoe
$550
Kairyoe 改良服, literally “improved clothing,” were developed in the Meiji era to create a simpler and more practical outer garment that was easier to wear and travel in, but still remained recognizable as a Buddhist robe. With shortened kimono-length sleeves, two side pleats, and a flattering silhouette created by the slightly flared skirt, the kairyoe is ideal for making pastoral visits, traveling, and outdoor functions. Kairyoe are traditionally worn over kimono.
