Traditional kimono
$495
This is a traditional-style kimono, made with okumi (front panels), uchiage (narrow waist fold), shoulder reinforcement panels, and rounded sleeve corners. Side pleats can also be added to provide additional fabric coverage in front when sitting cross-legged (read more about this here).
One of the defining features of a high-quality Japanese kimono is the way that the inner seam allowances are folded over and sewn with invisible stitching to hide the seams and fabric edges on the inside. This creates a striking inner finish that is both functional and beautiful. In order to keep the cost down, I offer the basic version of this kimono without this inner seam treatment — the seam allowances are simply pressed open, as is standard for most machine-finished garments. For those who want the fully traditional finish, however, I offer the option to add this inner seam treatment for additional fee. Due to the nature of the seams, this option cannot be combined with side pleats.
Kimono are traditionally worn with obi, which hold the panels closed and also help keep collars in place.
If you will be wearing this kimono with lay robes, please let me know when ordering so that I can make it the correct length.
